Georgia's PM says police acted to highest standards during protest

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze praised law enforcement for responding to protests with a higher standard than American and European policing. Police intervened only after protests turned violent, marked by the use of pyrotechnics and projectiles against them. The protests were sparked by the governments decision to pause EU membership talks until 2028. Kobakhidze condemned all forms of violence, especially against media representatives, affirming that such acts are categorically unacceptable. He expressed gratitude to Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and law enforcement for their efforts to maintain constitutional order amid violent disruptions. Additionally, the Prime Minister highlighted the need for dialogue and constructive criticism while urging citizens to respect the rule of law during times of unrest. He emphasized the governments commitment to pursuing European integration, despite the recent pause in talks, and reiterated the importance of public safety in maintaining social stability.
